Beyond The Walls

Winter 2027

The one enemy he can’t outrun — himself.

Haunted by the demons of his past, Dom is imprisoned for dealing drugs. While in solitary confinement he commits to purge himself of all violence. An emotional inner battle and transformation follows.

As he finds his purpose and compassion, he vows to live a life without violence toward any living creature — an extraordinary journey of lasting transformation.

“If it causes harm,
then nah.”

Dom’s vow — written in the hole

02Characters

Within the Walls & Beyond

Temporary concept portraits — final cast imagery to follow.

  • Concept portrait of Dom Thompson, a man in a white cowboy hat and denim jacket, lit by warm golden light

    The Prisoner

    Dom Thompson

A Chicago athlete turned dealer, serving five years for a first offense. Forty days in solitary force him to face the one enemy he can’t outrun — and a vow that changes every life he touches. Inspired by the real Dominick Thompson.

  • Concept portrait of Herald, a bearded long-haired man half in shadow

    The Guide

    Herald

A hermit-like cellmate who talks like a therapist and reads Dom like an open book. He arrives without warning, knows too much, and asks the only questions that matter.

  • Concept portrait of Maria Thompson, a nurse with warm, resolute eyes

    The Mother

    Maria Thompson

A nurse who raised three children alone on Chicago’s West Side, working three jobs and asking no favors. Her fierce love — and one saved scrap of paper — reaches through the prison walls.

  • Concept portrait of Ally Fremont, a defense attorney in a charcoal blazer

    The Lawyer

    Ally Fremont

The defense attorney who won’t take no from a prison. Blunt, tireless and allergic to the word “policy,” she keeps fighting long after the verdict is in.

  • Concept portrait of Minos, a corrections officer lit harshly from below

    The Keeper

    Minos

The SHU’s ranking guard and its self-appointed judge. Every tray, every taunt, every hour of Dom’s isolation passes through his hands.

  • Concept portrait of Sam, a weathered rancher in a brown cowboy hat

    The Sanctuary Keeper

    Sam

Owner of the sanctuary where broken animals come to heal. He’s seen what second chances do — and he isn’t afraid to give one to a man with a record.

  • Concept portrait of St. Louis, a formidable inmate holding a chess piece

    The Predator

    St. Louis

A new transfer with a chess board and something to prove. One violent moment at his hands sends Dom into the dark — and toward everything that follows.

  • Concept portrait of Tee, a young inmate with an easy half-grin

    The Friend

    Tee

Dom’s cellmate in general population — a Detroit dope boy with a quick mouth and a good heart, and the first to notice that the man who came back from the hole isn’t the man who went in.

How It Was Made

A large-format cinema camera with a vintage anamorphic lens on a dark film set

In Camera

The film lives at night — the pasture dark, the cell dark, the dark behind a man’s eyes. To hold detail in all that black, the production pairs large-format digital cinema cameras with vintage anamorphic glass: modern sensors for the shadows, old lenses for the soul.

Wherever possible, scenes are lit the way a character would actually see them — one warm source against the night.

  • Large-format digital
  • Vintage anamorphic
  • Single-source night lighting

The Volume

The visions that visit Dom in the hole — a tempest at sea, the belly of the beast, a desert at dawn — are staged inside a wraparound LED volume: a stage walled with high-resolution LED panels playing real-time environments.

The cell set stands at its centre, so the impossible can surround the actors in camera rather than in post — light, reflection and performance captured together.

  • Real-time environments
